Pakistani music is a unique blend of diverse styles, within a country. It can be divided under two main categories, traditional and ‘east meets west’. The traditional music comprises of the classical variety and the ‘east meets west’ is more of a fusion, between the native and modern music.

The Qaumi Tarana is the national anthem of Pakistan, composed by Ahmed Ghulami Chagla. The lyrics were written by Abu-Al-Asar-Hafeez-Jullandhuri. In 1954, it was officially adopted as the national anthem. The lyrics of the anthem refer to Pakistan as a sacred land. Being the national anthem, it is played on the Independence Day of Pakistan and Pakistan Day.

Pakistani classical music was developed in the northern Indian subcontinent, in the 13th and 14th centuries AD. The existing religious, folk and theatrical performances nurtured it. It was also influenced by Vedic philosophy and native Indian music. Classical music is not very popular now, though it is still an integral part of the traditional ceremonies, like weddings and cultural gatherings.

A look at Pakistan Song Video: The music videos of popular Pakistani songs are regularly displayed on the Pakistani television network, like ARY Digital, PTV National, Hum TV and MTV Pakistan. Apart from the music companies, various bands and musical groups produce their own videos.

Punjabi flavors of Pakistan Song: The Punjab province in Pakistan is the hub of the music world. The traditional Punjabi music uses instruments like the dhol, dholak, flute and tumbi. Bhangra is the most recognized form of Punjabi music and dance. The dhol is prominently used for Bhangra. Bhangra is native to the Punjab region of India, in the pre independence era.

Sindhi styles of Pakistan Song: Music from Sindh has 2 unique styles, the Baits and the Waee style. A string instrument called the Kafi is used in the Waee style. Sindhi regional music uses instruments like the Yaktaro, Naghara and Narr.

Pashto: Pashto music accompanies two or more singers, at a fast tempo. There are different forms of Pashto music like Loba, Tappa, Charbeta, Neemkai, Shaan and Badala. They are native to the North West Frontiers of Pakistan. The Pashto music accompanies:
- Tappa, the oldest form of Pashto poetry.
- Charbetta, the most popular form of Pashto songs.
- Shaan, the festive songs performed on occasions like marriage and childbirth.

Professional singers usually perform the Badala form of Pashto music .It is performed with instruments like the drum, harmonium and tabla.

Pashto women sing the Neemakai, describing their daily life. The Rubab is an essential part of Pashto folk music. The Loba is presented as a dramatic dialogue.

Pakistani music highlights the hardy people, cultures and traditions of the different regions. The video albums are gaining more popularity with the youth.
